“When skulls or other
body parts are found throughout the country, our FACES
laboratory may receive a phone call to assist in
constructing details regarding gender, age, cause of
death, and other pertinent information,” commented Mary
Manhein, LSU’s renowned author in the field of
anthropology and guest speaker for the Greater Baton Rouge
LSU Alumni Club’s March 20th event at
Matherne’s wine room.
Dr. Manhein delighted
her audience of over fifty area alumni and friends with
anecdotes of her staff’s involvement in solving crimes and
assisting in missing persons’ searches throughout the past
decade. Her vivid Power Point presentation enabled
attendees to detect the slight differences in bone
structures which provide those all important clues to
solving the mysteries.
Following the
presentation and a raffle of LSU memorabilia items, club
members enjoyed a catfish dinner with the all of the
trimmings served by the Matherne’s staff. |

Greater Baton Rouge
Alumni Club members opened 2007 with a chapter birthday
party and a focus on recruiting, both academic and
athletic. Over thirty alumni and friends gathered on the
porch at Walk-On’s Restaurant on February 22 to sample
complimentary appetizers while listening to Director of
Admissions Dr. Cleve Brooks and Academic Recruiting
Coordinator Andy Benoit discuss the academic strength of
our current students and the inroads LSU is making at
attracting high achievers from across the nation.
Recruiter Eric Prudhomme spoke about his role in
acquainting alumni, high school students, their parents,
and others with the high entrance standards and
opportunities at the Flagship University.
Matt DeVille of
Tiger Rag took the spotlight to discuss the recent
recruiting success on National Football Signing Day,
February 7. Football enthusiasts were thrilled to hear
that coach Les Miles and staff filled team needs with
outstanding players, even taking the top-ranked ones from
Michigan and Texas, as well as Louisiana.
Attendees enjoyed
birthday cake decorated in purple and gold as they cheered
the Lady Tiger Basketball team in their quest for a
victory at Vanderbilt. |
